Translation and Technology

There are three principal problems to focus in the technology and translation tools relation:

1- Any tool that doesn't account for the special features of individual languages it purports to support is doomed to fail sooner rather than lather.

2-Translation tools need to begin to accommodate the specific needs of particular language communities beyond compiling lists of non-translatable and special segmentation rules.

3-Transaltion tools are great at identifying matches on the sentence level . relatively good at finding concordances, and absolutely abysmal at coming up with good suggestions at the sub- sentence level, let alone morphological level.

We can conclude that the use of ICT by freelance translators is a timely and relevant subject of inquiry , given the high proportion of the translator community working on a freelance basis , and given the growing array of software applications , the purpose of both is a specific translation, available for their use.
